Paul Fitzpatrick.
Leading trainer Paul Fitzpatrick will set talented pacer Pub Blitz for this month’s Kilmore Cup after defeating Washakie last start in the Kevin Robinson Cup at Tabcorp Park Menangle. Fitzpatrick has been very happy with the gelding’s recent form and believes he deserves a chance at a feature standing start event.
“He has had a pretty big workload since arriving at our stable and to be fair to Pub Blitz he has probably earned a break somewhere along the way but he is going so well and he handles the stand so he will go to Kilmore and then come home for a crack at a race like the Treuer Memorial,” Fitzpatrick said.
“Pub Blitz has won five races for me and I was very happy to see him win the Kevin Robinson Cup last start because it proved what I had been thinking, that with the right run he is competitive in that top grade.”
While the son of Cammibest is yet to win from the stand, Fitzpatrick is happy with his manners from behind the strands.
“He has had three starts from a stand, two of them have been for me and he hasn’t won either of them but it isn’t his manners that are letting him down, he steps away fine, he has been just a bit unlucky during the races.”
“I also have the Newcastle Cup in mind for him which is also a standing start event so there are a few options after Kilmore, we will just have to wait and see.”
Fitzpatrick was delighted with the news that his talented filly Marquess De Posh had been awarded Australian Three Year OId Filly Of The Year.
“I actually didn’t know and someone told me at Penrith the other week, so it was a nice surprise, the Western Australian filly Sensational Gabby was the only other chance in the category but it was nice for my filly to be rewarded for her season.”
“Marquess De Posh had eight weeks off in the paddock and actually returned only last week to the stables and the target for her at this stage will be the Ladyship Mile.”
