International Transporter Sponsors National Breeding Awards
05 October 2012
The most trusted international horse transport company in the world, IRT, today joined Harness Racing Australia (HRA) as the naming rights sponsor of the national Standardbred breeding awards for 2012 and 2013.
Not only is this the first time the four major Globe Derby (Sires) and Winona (Broodmare) Awards have been sponsored, but the new partnership provides for a further twelve award presentations based on Sire and Broodmare Sire performances throughout the year.
When Quentin Wallace founded IRT in 1972, the very first charter flights carried Standardbred horses. Since that time, IRT has been proud to have grown with the industry, opening offices in New Zealand with Ross Johnson and David Cole, as well as the USA and Europe.
"We have enjoyed a close working relationship with Harness Racing Australia on quarantine matters in recent times as well as transporting many of the leading Standardbred Sires and runners to destinations across the globe. The opportunity to partner these important breeding awards allows us to invest in an industry which has been good to our company over many years", said Chris Burke, part-owner of IRT.
HRA Chairman, Geoff Want, was equally thrilled. "We are extremely pleased that IRT, a truly global company, have supported the expansion of these important awards and I'm confident the industry will continue to support IRT to transport horses whenever possible ", he said.
