Beetson Straight Back Into Action

Monday’s Canola Cup winner Beetson will race at Young on Friday in a heat of the Tabcorp Park Menangle Country series for trainer Peter Trevor-Jones. The former Gold Crown winner was impressive at Eugowra leading throughout and Trevor-Jones was extremely proud of the four year old.

“I have never had a runner in the Canola Cup, I have had a few runners in the consolation before but to qualify for the final and then win it was a massive thrill,” Trevor-Jones said.

“He found the front, then had to run a sub 35 second lead time and was still fight on at the finish. That is a real credit to the horse. Win lose or draw on Monday if he pulled up well enough I was always going to nominate for the Menangle heat at Young, even if it meant nominating out of his class but it all worked out nicely in the end.”

Beetson had more than 17 months away from the track after Trevor-Jones noticed a bubble on his tendon.

“In April last year I had it scanned and they told me that the best thing for him was to have six months in the paddock to rest but I thought about it and decided why not give him a year off and then if everything went right I could get him ready for the Canola Cup.”

“It’s not too often you sit down and work out a plan with a horse and it comes off so Monday’s result was very pleasing and I must give driver Trent Rue credit for the victory as well.”

Trevor-Jones has not looked past the upcoming Menangle series but will be looking through the “Gazette” in the next week to plan Beetson’s future campaign.

“I honestly don’t know what races there are for him after the Menangle final, he is only a C1 so there will be plenty of options.”

“The Carnival Of Cup meetings cater well for the country horses so I’m sure there will be a nice race for him.”
