Respected Pheasants Nest horseman Darren Hancock.
Respected Pheasants Nest horseman Darren Hancock has two former Tasmanian pacers engaged in Saturday night’s New Season Championship Final at Tabcorp Park Menangle. The former Inter Dominion winner is struggling to separate his two runners, Quastor Centurion and Left Loaded, but believes both are going to win more races in coming weeks.
“Both of the former Tasmanians are really lovely horses and have done a great job since they have arrived at my place,” Hancock said.
“Left Loaded came up to me first and he is yet to miss a place in four starts since arriving and I have to be honest he is going better than I thought he would, he is a pretty good stayer and has shown that he possesses good gate speed as well so he is pretty versatile.”
Quastor Centurion has only had two runs for Hancock but arrived with an imposing record.
“I think the connections thought they would send him to me after they saw the job that Left Loaded was doing in Sydney and when he arrived he had already won 20 races from 40 starts so Kent Rattray did a great job with him.”
“The plan is for him to have a few races in Sydney and then head back to Tasmania for some of the big races around Christmas, he is a lovely big strong horse and I think he is going to improve racing here.”
Hancock has recently returned from a holiday in Fiji but is training a big team of horses and there are a number of talented ones in the stable.
“I am training a team of 20 and the team is rolling very well at the moment, Tiger Tina is just about ready to roll again after having a week off after Breeders Crown.”
“I actually drove Tiger Tina’s grandmother, Tigerish, in the heats of the Inter Dominion in Sydney back in 1994 but Tiger Tina has done a great job since arriving from New Zealand and is going to win a few races this campaign.’
