Goulburn horseman Neil Day.
Goulburn horseman Neil Day is the most successful trainer in the history of Eugowra’s Canola Cup and is hoping to add to his impressive record. Day qualified two runners in Monday’s final with both Armalife and Real Armbro recording stylish victories in their heats.
“I had a lot of success when the race first kicked off and I think one of the people from the club said the other day that I won six of the first seven Canola Cups that were run,” Day said.
“It is nice to qualify two horses but it is a bit hard to get a good line on Armalife and Real Armbro because they are coming off very different preparations but it won’t be an easy race to win because there are a number of good chances in the event.”
Real Armbro suffered a serious injury as a two year old and Day is pleased to see him back winning races.
“The horse actually broke his shoulder in a race at Menangle when he got his leg caught in the back of a sulky but he is getting back to somewhere near his best.”
“I will be driving Real Armbro and Amy (daughter) will be driving Armalife again, I don’t think I can pinch the drive off her.”
Armalife had a very strong three year old season winning the Riverina Derby at Wagga beating the multiple Gr. 1 winner Grand Stride.
“He has run some really nice races, that Derby at Wagga was good and his run at Canberra when he beat Macca Kelly was very impressive as well.”
“I had another C0 called Beaver that could have raced at Eugowra but I thought the best idea was to try and keep a few of the horses apart and as a result Beaver will start in a Menangle Country Final on Saturday night which suits him a lot better because he doesn’t really handle the smaller tracks at this stage of his career.”
