McNamara Back To Call Canola Cup

New Zealand’s leading harness racing caller Mark McNamara will return to Australia next week to call Eugowra’s Lexus Of Parramatta Canola Cup.

New Zealand’s leading harness racing caller Mark McNamara will return to Australia next week to call Eugowra’s Lexus Of Parramatta Canola Cup. The race meeting will kick off HRNSW’s Carnival Of Cups for the season and McNamara is looking forward to returning to a track where he loves calling.

“In terms of my favourite country race it is very hard to go past the Bathurst Gold Crown but Eugowra just has this special atmosphere that no other track in Australia has,” McNamara said.

“It’s hard to explain to someone who has never been there in the past but the way I explain it to people from New Zealand is that Eugowra is very similar to Kaikoura Cup Day, they have one meeting a year, people come from everywhere to go to the races and everyone just has a good time.”

McNamara and his wife Katie will fly into Australia on Saturday, two days before the Canola Cup is run.

“Katie is making the trip with me, she is looking forward to it as well because she has been asked to help judge the fashions on the field and she always likes to get home to Australia.”

“The plan is to call Addington on Friday night, fly across first thing on Saturday morning, drive up to Eugowra on Sunday, go to the pub and watch the rugby league grand final which became a bit of a tradition when I was calling the race every year, call the races on the Monday before returning back to New Zealand on the Wednesday.”

After starting his race calling career in New South Wales, McNamara is enjoying his role in New Zealand.

“I have really settled in well now and the earthquakes seemed to have stopped here in Christchurch so it makes it a bit easier without the constant shaking.”

“Katie is expecting our first child on March 16th next year so everything is going really well for us.”

Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
