Optimistic; Shannon Price is hopeful with her latest acquisition in Chevals Clivesdale.
Emerging talent Chevals Clivesdale has found himself a new home.
Leviathan owner Tony Price purchased the Cold Mountain Stud product at a Marburg public auction last Sunday for a sum of $57,500.
Previously prepared by Jason Carkeet, the colt has now entered the stables of astute trainer Shannon Price, daughter of Tony.
Cold Mountain Stud, headed up by billionaire businessman Clive Palmer, offered a huge draft at the sale including racing stock plus broodmares as they reduce their stock at a massive rate.
Most stock has been sold while lease deals have also been negotiated with several owners and trainers throughout Australia in recent weeks.
Chevals Clivesdale was the top lot at Sunday’s auction.
“We believe he was well priced considering what he’s done in his short career to date, try buying a horse from New Zealand with his credentials.” Shannon Price said.
The 3yo is mid-way through a six-week spell before he enters full work again with a busy season expected.
“We brought him straight home on Sunday and he’s got another 3 weeks left before we start playing around with him, he’s a lovely colt with good looks and great manners.
His form reads very well and his last start victory at Albion Park was impressive running good time and that followed a brave effort against a Group One winning filly in Lady White Water.
He’s staked for just about everything so we will try and plot a path after he’s done some serious work because we will know where he’s at by that stage.”
While there are plenty of positives with Chevals Clivesdale, there is one obvious obstacle.
“Majestic Mach is obviously standing in our way and that’s a massive mountain we have to climb but we’re prepared to have a throw at the stumps.
Our juveniles from last season didn’t meet our standards and we needed to reload and we’re hopeful this guy can take the next step forward.
We don’t expect Majestic Mach to chase every big race available and that leaves plenty of opportunities for us, we just have to manage him well and maybe dodge him when we can.”
