‘THE Australasian Harness Racing Art Exhibition will return to Bankstown Paceway in 2013 and will again be run in concert with the Bankstown City Cup Carnival, following the success of this month’s inaugural event,’ Bankstown Paceway director Megan Lavender has confirmed.
‘With in excess of one hundred entries submitted and a total of eighty seven pieces included in this, our first exhibition, 2013 looks particularly promising indeed,’ Ms Lavender said today.
‘From the thousands of harness racing fans and art lovers visiting this month’s exhibition, I am also pleased to announce that the winner of the People’s Choice Award is Joan Secombe for her watercolour piece entitled ‘Morning Exercise’ (Catalogue No. 63),’ Ms Lavender said.
Earlier this month, on Wednesday, August 15th, 2012, Bankstown mayor Khal Asfour and East Hills MP Glenn Brookes announced the following winners of Bankstown Paceway’s inaugural Australasian Harness Racing Art Exhibition:
Winner: Fay Joseph for her work entitled ‘Racing’ (Oil – Catalogue No. 49); and
Highly Commended: Michael Rogers for his work entitled ‘Ready for the Race’ (Oil – Catalogue No. 60); and
Commended: Petros Hovaghimian for his work entitled ‘Homage to the Horse’ (Watercolour – Catalogue No. 39).
On Bankstown City Cup Gala Awards and Race Night, Thursday, August 16th, 2012, Bankstown Paceway president Les Bentley announced that Michael Rogers’ painting ‘Ready for the Race’ (Oil – Catalogue No. 60) was also the winner of the inaugural Paceway President’s Art Award.
