Dean McDowell.
Talented New South Wales trotter Fortheloveofmoney may be only small in stature but what he lacks in size he makes up for with his ability and determination and trainer Dean McDowell is hoping that it is these qualities that can take him to success in the Victorian Trotters Derby. Fortheloveofmoney won his Derby heat at Maryborough and will return to compete on Sunday at the all trotters day.
“He is an absolute midget, I was watching him warm up in the heat of the Derby at Maryborough and he was just so small compared to the rest of them,” McDowell said.
“I have never seen his father Kadabra, but they tell me that he was a giant. He definitely didn’t get any size from him but that hasn’t stopped him continuing to improve throughout the season and hopefully he can finish it off with a bang this weekend in the Trotters Derby.”
Fortheloveofmoney’s dam Frozen Funds competed in the 2002 Victorian Trotters Derby but finished down the track behind another talented filly Zesta.
“He has won three of his last six starts and I think his improvement is a mix of two factors, firstly the little bloke has been wanting to get out over a bigger distance and there is no doubt that he ran out the trip in the heat really well and secondly he is starting to learn what racing is all about.”
“I put a hood on him three or four runs backs and he really started to turn the corner and knuckle down.”
Fortheloveofmoney will go straight to the paddock after Sunday’s run joining exciting two year old Home Of The Brave with McDowell confirming both will have lengthy spells.
“Fortheloveofmoney can head off for a spell after Sunday and Home Of The Brave is already spelling and won’t be back for a while because I would like him to have a minimum of two months off.”
