Sydney reinsman Blake Fitzpatrick is hoping to win two Gr. 1 races in the space of 24 hours in two different states later this week. Fitzpatrick will be in Victoria on Friday night with his talented two year old trotting filly Duchess Ella in the Vicbred final before flying to Brisbane to drive Marquess De Posh in Saturday night’s Queensland Oaks.
“I’m going to be seeing plenty of the countryside that’s for sure but it is good to be a part of the feature racing so I’m looking forward to the weekend,” Fitzpatrick said.
“Realistically I think I am on two winning hopes and the barrier draws have both been kind so I am hoping the luck continues to go our way.”
Fitzpatrick is extremely happy with the recent performances of Duchess Ella and thinks she deserved her last start win in a heat of the Vicbred series.
“It was only her first win but she has been so consistent this season and with her good manners she has a really strong hope.”
“She has chased home Blitzthemcalder a few times and has never disgraced herself and the only time she has missed a place was when she went to Coolamon and finished fourth.”
Marquess De Posh is trained by Blake’s father Paul and is looking for her fourth consecutive victory after taking out the Gold Coast Oaks and a heat of the Breeders Crown in the past fortnight.
“I have won the Queensland Oaks twice, the first time on Dance Of Life and then on Ima Spicey Lombo and this filly Marquess De Posh really reminds me of Ima Spicey Lombo, she has good gate speed and some strength as well so she is a very versatile filly that can adapt to any situation.”
“Her win last weekend was very good, she did it comfortably and honestly I don’t think Dad has ever had her going better.”
