Exciting Last Sunset/Maramas Invasion (Armbro Invasion) gelding Sunset Invasion gave strong indication that he would be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming two-year-old trotting feature the “Redwood  Classic”, when a comfortable winner of $10,000 The Maori Legend – an important lead up event to the big one held at Stawell on Thursday July 7.

Trained in Melton by former Wedderburn resident Donna Tolley, Sunset Invasion making only his third appearance at the races was driven by Chris Alford, stepping safely from outside the second row in the 2175 metre feature, with Alford wasting no time in sending him forward to park outside Kerryn Manning’s Siegfried, a well-supported second-elect which led.

Easing in behind the pacemaker shortly after, Sunset Invasion enjoyed a cosy passage, before moving away from the markers approaching the home turn.

Applying plenty of pressure to Siegfried on straightening, Sunset Invasion cruised to the wire in recording a “soft” 6.3 metre victory over Siefried in 2-10.8, with Ships Spur a further 4 metres away in third place.
