At its monthly meeting today the HRNSW Board considered and approved an application by Mr Christopher Gleeson to have his lifetime disqualification lifted.
Mr Gleeson was disqualified in 1996 under Rule 375 for actions detrimental to harness racing after an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Coloresque being retired from Race 4 at Harold Park on Tuesday 14 November 1995.
Mr Gleeson previously made a submission for a licence to the Greyhound and Harness Racing Regulatory Authority in 2006, but was denied.
When making an assessment, the Board took into account the lifetime disqualifications given to Bill and Rob Waterhouse following the Fine Cotton affair, which were both lifted after 14 years.
While Mr Gleeson’s disqualification has been lifted, he has not been granted a licence, and will need to make a separate application to the Board in the future if he seeks a licence.
Additionally, the Board ordered that an outstanding TCO2 positive swab from 1996 be heard by the Stewards at a date to be fixed and before any licence application is considered.
Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 31 racing clubs across the State. HRNSW is headed by an industry-appointed Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
