Newly crowned Victorian Horse of the
Year Mont Denver Gold returns to racing this Sunday night at Ballarat.
The Hunter Cup hero will face only six rivals when he
steps out in the $4000 "Girls Night Out" October 3 Pace at 7.15pm (AET).
Under the preferential draw on earnings, the Barry
Alford-trained and Chris Alford-driven speedster will start from gate seven in
the 1700 metre scamper.
Expect the flashy chestnut to head back early and be
charging home over the last 400 metres in what looks an attractive first-up
assignment.
As a last start runner-up in the Inter Dominion Grand
Final, he looks extremely well graded tackling a C7-C9 Pace in regional
Victoria.
Those lining up to play the giant-killer at Bray
Raceway are Gawler Cup winner In The Queue (gate six), talented local Sting
Lika Bee (gate five) and the Gavin Lang-piloted Spurable (gate three).
Mont Denver Gold's connections have earmarked Sydney's
$600,000 SEW Eurodrive Miracle Mile (Group 1) on 28 November as his primary
target and thus his racing program has been tailored to suit.
Looking ahead, he'll bypass the $100,000 Mallia
Builders Kilmore Pacing Cup (Group 1) on 26 October in preference for their Cup
Day Sprint.
The $50,000 Campbells Cash
& Carry Legends Mile (Group 2) at Moonee Valley on 7 November will then
provide the pivotal stepping stone for his Miracle Mile campaign.
