John Caldow has now driven 18-straight 100-win seasons
The Australian record for the most consecutive 100-win seasons by a reinsman now sits at 18 following this afternoon's successful trip to Charlton by John Caldow.
Just as he has done every season since 1991/92, the Melton reinsman cracked the ton when he teamed with Ima Gift to win the Orchids In July Pace at the St Arnaud Harness Racing Club meeting.
The 40-year-old - whose century is made up of 95 winners in his home state, four in Tasmania and one in New South Wales - said it was good to keep the run going after a slower than usual start to the season.
"The first three months of the season were pretty slow, the first month especially when I didn't do much at all, but once we got going things quickened up a bit," he said.
"It's always good to get the 100 up, because it shows you've been competitive and consistent and is the sign of a good year."
The win took Caldow's career tally to 2930 winners. He's taken 19220 drives to get them and his runners have earned in excess of $17.5 million in stakes.
More than $1,170,000 of that came in 1998/99 when he punched home 238 winners, which remains his best season to date.
Caldow joins Daryl Douglas (323), Chris Alford (203), Gavin Lang (166), Jodi Quinlan (125), Kerryn Manning (121) and Nathan Jack (110) as the Victorian drivers to have piloted 100 winners this season.
