Broadways Best is chasing a third Group 1 win for the season this weekend
Broadways Best has been trumpeted as Australia's top three-year-old filly since her dominant Victoria Oaks win and she might need to be to win Saturday night's Nevele R Stud Australian Oaks at Moonee Valley.
The Shannon McLean-trained star looks like rolling from inside the back row - barrier eight - in the $75,000 Group 1 event.
While she drew to trail out potential leader Lauraella in barrier nine, she will surrender that position and move to the awkward spot inside the second line if emergency Sinfull Adda (barrier eight) doesn't get a run.
Adding to her task is that most of the other leading fancies in the 2575-metre mobile drew the front row.
Along with New Zealand's top filly Lauraella, Queen Of Fire (one), Life Inthefastlane (three) and big-race specialist Keppel Bay (four) all drew well, while Dreams Of Heaven landed gate six.
McLean agreed it made master reinsman Chris Alford's job a tough one, but he is remaining positive.
"It's going to make it a little bit tricky from the barrier, but we can't do anything about that now," he said.
"We'll just stay positive and she's really fit and healthy and has improved so we'll just focus on that."
The Oaks will be run at 9.30pm and headlines a big night of action for the girls with the state's top mares locking horns in a star-studded $20,000 The VSB&SA Jane Ellen.
Broadways Best's stablemate Broadway Play joins Deanna Troy as big names resuming in the 2100m mobile event.
Waiting for them will be in-form trio Pacific Charm, Sophie Pass and Jazzam, while talented types Dilinger Girl (three), Mesmerizing (four), Gilt Bromac (five) and Very Chic (seven) are also engaged.
Saturday night's program also features three heats of the Winter Championship for the M0s, who pursue a place in the $25,000 final at Tabcorp Park on Saturday, July 24.
