Mirror block blinkers have been formally approved by the HRA Gear and Equipment Committee for use in Australian Harness Racing from 30/11/2021. The approval is subject to a safety review in 6 months’ time.

HRA takes the process of approving new products very seriously as it impacts on the health and safety of all participants as well as the welfare of horses. In keeping with this, only professionally manufactured versions of these blinkers may be used.

HRA will continue to work with all manufacturers and distributors of gear and equipment to ensure that all new products meet the expected standards of the industry.

With new variations of gear and equipment coming onto the market more frequently this is also an opportunity to remind participants that ALL gear used on horses must be approved. A list of approved gear is available on the harness.org.au website. Any gear not on the list, including home-made gear cannot be used without the approval of the stewards.
