Stylish Memphis focused on her main aim, tonight's Ladyship Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
TWO ladies caught everyone’s eye at Tabcorp Park Menangle last weekend.
Now with the official Ladies Night of the Carnival of Miracles there tonight, Stylish Memphis and Anntonia are now primed to steal the show.
After a solid second with gun three-year-old filly Anntonia in a heat of the NSW Oaks, reinsman Jack Trainor then came from near last to finish fourth with ace Kiwi mare Stylish Memphis in the Chariots Of Fire, behind Expensive Ego.
Most who witnessed both girls’ efforts would have been marking them with an asterisk as horses to follow.
And Trainor agrees:
“Stylish Memphis was not really entitled to be in the finish of the Chariots, but she finished just four metres from the winner after being last on the home turn. It was a terrific run.
“She was sent here for tonight’s Ladyship Mile and that’s always been her main aim.
“Anything else has been a bonus.
“This mare is so versatile; we should have plenty of options and she should be within striking distance.
“Mind you, she is taking on some of the best mares in Australia and they all deserve to be there, although I am confident she can do the job for us tonight.”
Trainor will also partner Anntonia on the NSW Oaks and feels she is ready to show some gate speed after drawing perfectly in gate one.
“Emma Stewart’s horses dominated last weekend but knowing we’ll be tucked away on the fence and will be nice and handy with a horse I know to be promising is a real bonus,” said Trainor.
“She was parked the whole way last week and I probably shouldn’t have let the leader get a bit of a breather, but she’ll relish the 2400m and I think she ‘s had the perfect preparation.
“I was speaking to her trainer David Thorn this morning and he said she had pulled up even better than her previous start when she won at Penrith.
“Full marks to the Emma Stewart stable as their horses are always hard to beat and while you sometimes wish they had stayed at home, it’s a credit to them that they have so many good chances in the Oaks.
“I just hope there is some speed on, and we can get a bit of luck at the end.
“I know how fast Anntonia can go so it’s fingers crossed for tonight.
“I have a couple of really nice Group 1 chances and as long as they race well, I’ll be happy.”
