Organisational Context

The Albion Park Harness Racing Club is Queensland’s metropolitan Harness Racing facility located in South East Queensland conducting 3 race meetings per week. It is an incorporated membership Club that provides for functions, catering and on course betting for the general public and its members.

Position Purpose and responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Developing, shaping and executing the strategic revenue growth pathways, membership value and patron experiences
  • The EM is responsible for overviewing the smooth running and development of APHRC’s services, administration and operational functions, including Finance, Racing and Communications, Marketing, Health and Safety. Overseas the financial functions of the club in conjunction with key staff including budgeting, reporting and audit
  • This position requires the successful candidate to have strong strategic and people leadership, business/commercial/marketing acumen.   It requires an ability to build and maintain mutually rewarding relationships with a cross section of the industry and key stakeholders to lead and deliver effective significant change
  • Overseas all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired outcomes and are consistent with the overall strategy and vision of the club
  • Works with the Committee Chair to enable the committee/club to fulfil its governance functions and manages the clubs due diligence processes to ensure timely attention to core issues
  • Assists the Committee determine the club’s values, mission, vision coupled with short term and long term goals
  • Assures program quality and organisational stability through development and implementation of quality standards and controls, systems and procedures with regular control tests being executed

Requirements

Given the nature of this senior role, the incumbent could be expected to work outside of normal working hours according to event and race day requirements. There will also be occasional travel to industry related meetings.

Competencies Required

•     General racing knowledge and or experience in a like sport

•     Deep knowledge of the wagering industry and related machinations

•     Marketing, media, sponsorship and events management

•     Excellent communication skills both written and verbal coupled with public speaking

•     The ability to effectively engage many industry and related key stakeholders

•     Experience in developing/enhancing new and existing revenue streams

•     Knowledge of the food and beverage industry is preferred
