The star attraction at this evening's twilight card of pacing in Devonport is undoubtedly the Rohan Hillier-trained and driven Ryley Major.
The Art Major-Shez Ryleymak six-year-old gelding (pictured) has made a sensational return to the track from a near three-year injury-enforced lay off to win three of its five starts along with a slashing third to Franco Tristan in the Easter Cup and will run a short-priced favourite in race four the Degree C Quality.
"Take nothing away from the winner in the Cup but unfortunately we drew the only place we didn't want to be and were buried four back the pegs at the bell, when we finally got off the pegs he flashed home to be only beaten 1.3 metres, it was a super effort," said Rohan.
"There's no chance of being stuck on the pegs tonight though, drawn the outside of the front line in Devonport over 1930 metres is not your preferred starting position but we will just have to overcome that, it would be good to think he could lead but he doesn't have to find the top, he can still do plenty of work in the run and be a live chance at the post, Blackbird Power has hit top form winning his last couple for Gavin Kelly so I will keep an eye out for him in the run."
Stowport trainer Craig Hayes appears set to continue his long-running line of success with broodmare Gallavance when her two-year-old Pet Rock filly Brookwillrock makes her debut in the opening race on the 8-event card, the CUB Devonport Belmont.
Brookwillrock has five wins from six trials under her belt going into her debut run and has drawn the one gate over the 1930-metre trip.
Todd Rattray will also produce a well-bred newcomer, Shewillrock in the Belmont.
The Rock N Roll Heaven -Tirols Ziray filly is a half-sister to Pachacuti and ran a promising second in her trial behind Artyboy Glenwood which went on to win on debut in Launceston for Brian Mackrill.
It's an early 16:15 start for the 8-event Devonport card, all the action can be seen via the live stream service at tasracing.com.au
