Royal Story gave Bernie Hewitt a treble at the Gold Crown Paceway on Wednesday night.

A TRIO of harness racing’s big guns produced top line drives on a cool night at Bathurst’s Gold Crown Paceway last Wednesday.

Steve Turnbull said he was never confident aboard Sabrage in the 1730m Tooheys New Pace but when confronting the field mid race and heading them off, the six-year-old unwanted in the betting ($16) set up a thrilling finish with nine metres between first and last.

‘’I can never really be fully confident with this bloke but he stuck on well,’’ he said. Karloo Damajor and Holy Camp Clive producing big runs in a blanket finish.

Lauren Tritton grabbed a brilliant double. Colossal Stride backed up a powerhouse performance at Menangle with top gate speed to win in dominant fashion in the (1730m) Cobbity Equine Pace.

‘’He showed he’s a smart horse and good showing,’’ Tritton said.

Major Bob in the Ballinger Transport Two-Year-Old Pace showed why he had bad luck in the Gold Crown Final securing a high quality victory by three metres over a fast finishing Yianni.

‘’ His run was pretty good in the Gold Crown Final and proved his going places. Good speed,’’ Tritton said.

Bernie Hewitt says College Chapel is back following a strong win in the Bling it On Pace (1730m) rocketing around the outside of the field and driving to the lead to win impressively.

‘’Pretty good, almost back to his best," Hewitt said.

College Chapel has had a few medical problems but certainly showed fast legs circumnavigating them .

The Soho Valancia Heat (2260m) was won by a Royal Story. Bernie Hewitt booting the bay mare wide to fire away and looked the winner but Jeradas Delight was storming home to just miss.
