IT WAS a quick to return to earth for star reinswoman Jocelyn Young this morning.
Enjoying the extreme high of capturing her initial Group One at Gloucester Park last night, Young was back to working horses in the mud and cleaning stables today.
“Being back to work when it’s been raining and the track is muddy is a reality check,” Young said. “I don’t think it is has really sunk in that I won a Group One, but working and cleaning in the rain has helped make it surreal.
“When I went out onto the track I didn’t think of it as being a Group One, it was just another race, plus being an outsider I didn’t think we would win unless she got a bit of luck.
“She got that luck and ran a super race.”
Young’s moment in the spotlight came as a result of her faultless drive behind Australian Pacing Gold purchase Has No Fear in the Western Australian Oaks.
Eased away from her outside of the front row draw, Has No Fear was settled at the tail of the field – about 10 metres from the pack - as Soho Interceptor, Mandy Joan and Dracarys took turns at setting the pace.
Gaining a three-wide trail along the back straight, the daughter of Western Terror was four-deep turning for home before sprinting to a neck win from Delightfulreaction, with Majorpride a metre away third.
“Down the back I felt she had fresh legs and was hoping like hell I didn’t get forced to go wider than I needed to be,” Young said. “When I got a bit of cover, which she likes, it was great, so it worked out perfectly.”
Causing an upset at $26, the Justin Prentice-trained filly rated 1:57.1 over 2536 metres to take her record to six wins and seven placings from 18 starts.
“I knew she had it in her, it was just a matter of getting the right run,” Young said.
