New Norfolk trainer Roger Whitmore travels to Devonport with a strong chance of landing a winning double at this evening’s Devonport Harness Racing Club meeting.

Roger will launch his opening salvo in the first event on the six-race card, the Hardings Hotmix  Pace over 1930 metres with Sutter Star.

“He will be making his first appearance at Devonport, he won two of his three starts as a two-year-old and now at three he is just getting to where I was expecting him to be, he’s run good seconds to Resurgent Storm and My Girl Pearl in recent weeks and he’s improving all the time,” said Roger.

Sutter Star, a Sutter Hanover-Our Etoile colt, will start from gate two over the sprint trip with the scratching of Smokey Mac.

“Karalta Moondance has drawn inside us and she has early speed, Paul (Ashwood) may have to settle for the breeze, but Sutter Star is a strong customer so I believe he can handle that and still win.”

Resurgent Dream (pictured-inside) is the second of Roger’s runners in race five the Skyracing Pace over 2297 metres.

The American Ideal-Resurgent Star five-year-old mare has won 10 of her 24 starts with two of those victories coming in Devonport from four starts.

“Resurgent Dream loves the Devonport track, she has raced there four times and never finished further back than second, she was runner-up to Izaha at her last run and finished second to Poker Storm at the track last month,” Whitmore said.

“She won her 10th race in mid-February defeating Drayton and Usain Jolt but we haven’t had any favours tonight drawing two on the second row, so Paul (Ashwood) will need to see how the race pans out early and make his move at the right time, I’m confident she will be in the finish.

This evening’s six-event Devonport Harness Racing Club card, commencing at 17.28, may be seen via the live stream service at tasracing.com.au.
