HARNESS Racing New South Wales has previously reminded trainers of their obligation to present horses to race free of prohibited substances and the absolute liability for trainers who are found to have breached Australian Harness Racing Rule (AHRR) 190(1).

HRNSW has also previously provided advice in relation to detection times and withdrawal times of substances as well as the potential for long acting substances, such as corticosteroids, which may have unpredictable detection times in excess of withdrawal times advised by veterinarians.

Trainers are reminded that a horse is presented at 8am on raceday pursuant to AHRR 190(5) as follows:

AHRR 190 (5)  A horse is presented for a race during the period commencing at 8.00 a.m. on the day of the race for which the horse is nominated and ending at the time it is removed from the racecourse after the running of that race.

Consequently, any withdrawal periods advised by veterinarians and/or adopted by trainers should be determined from 8am on raceday and NOT the time a horse is engaged to race.

Harness Racing NSW (HRNSW) is the controlling body for harness racing in New South Wales with responsibility for commercial and regulatory management of the industry including 33 racing clubs across the State.  HRNSW is headed by a Board of Directors and is independent of Government.
