It is not an everyday occurrence that a yearling is offered for sale in Australia that is sired by the USA’s Leading Sire of 2 year olds  from a mare that competed in an Inter Dominion Final.

Well on Sunday 27th January at Albion Park when Lot 16 strides into the ring , the auctioneer will be demanding the attention of everyone in attendance or watching on the live streaming.

It will be reminiscent of that famous race call of Roger Huston’s at Delaware , Ohio in 1985  when describing Falcon Seelster’s World Record   -  “ If you’re not on your feet now , then you had better stand up “.

Lot 16 is a cracking colt by the $3 million winner  Captain Treacherous  from the 1.51.7 winning mare  Forever Gold.   He is being offered by Queensland breeders Murray Cole and Beau Watson and has been raised and prepared at the famous Egmont Stud on the rich Darling Down soils west of Toowoomba.

Egmont studmaster Peter Bell is so impressed with this colt   -   “He is the best colt in the Egmont draft , he is strong , good legged and has a real presence about him “.

There will be 27 colts by Captain Treacherous offered at the APG Sales this year and this boy is the first to be sold anywhere in Australia…..    and who knows he could be the best.

The “Captain“ who was a champion two and three year old in USA has hit the ground running with his first crop to the races ,  heading the USTA Two Year Old Sires list in 2018 with 83 starters winning over $3.3 million in earnings.  Amongst those impressive winners was a colt Captain Crunch 1.49.2 $616,113 who was recently awarded the Two Year Old Pacing Colt of the Year title.

Forever Gold completed her racing career with 42 wins and $700,593 in earnings.  She raced with great success from two until a seven year old.

The Group wins were numerous and included the Queensland Triad Finals at both two and three , the Queensland Ladyship Stakes in three successive years , a Robin Dundee Stakes at Menangle and a Heat of the 2014 Inter Dominions.  Unfortunately she suffered severe interference in the Final [ won by Beautide ] almost losing her driver in the incident.

The two victories I enjoyed the most though were the Queensland Oaks and the Governors Cup , when she beat the best boys in Queensland   -  with both those wins being in 2011 “  said a proud Murray recently.

Here is an example of just how good a racemare Forever Gold was   -   in the 2015 Group One Blacks A Fake  horses such as Smolda , For A Reason , Avonnova , Ultimate Art   and Destreos all finished in her wake , although along came Philadelphia Man to knock her off the Trophy List.

Murray and Beau are also offering three close relatives to Forever Gold on the 27th January ;

#   Lot 23  -  a Sunshine Beach Filly  [ a good looking athletic filly ].

#   Lot 28   -  a Safari Colt [ ¾ brother to Forever Gold ]

#   Lot 33   -  a Mr Feelgood Filly  [ you could have some fun naming her ].

The Egmont draft includes a further six yearlings  , all beautifully prepared by Peter Bell and his staff.

A Mach Three filly [ Lot 19 ] who is a half sister to 5 winners including the $400,000 winning filly  Joys A Babe should be on several buyers radar as should the last Lot in the Sale  [ Lot 46 ]  -  a Rock N Roll Heaven half sister to  Bonnie Jujon 1.56 $104,760 and a three quarter sister in blood to the flying juvenile filly Heavens Trend 1.52.1 $385,683.

Three yearlings by Mr Feelgood [ great looking types ]  and a Hurrikane Kingcole filly round out the impressive Egmont draft.

Hurrikane Kingcole , one of the fastest ever three year olds to set foot on an American track , is the sire of the very smart two year old colt in Victoria called Youaremy Sunshine , who has run two close seconds to the form two year old in Australia to date , The Tiger Army.
