Harness Racing South Australia (HRSA) is pleased to announce that it has today made grants to a number of rehoming operations located in South Australia.
The funds distributed today were raised through a grant from the SA Government and from stallions’ services, generously supplied by Alabar Bloodstock and auctioned by SA BOTRA.
`Life after Racing’ for harness racing horses (standardbreds) is a most important aspect of the harness racing industry, and with the numbers of standardbreds being retrained and rehomed increasing year on year HRSA is committed to ensuring that resources are applied to assist the people and organisations undertaking these activities.
When their track careers are over, many of the best horses will be retired to stud to breed the next generation of harness racehorses, however there are still a great many which either race without significant distinction or which do not race at all, and it is these animals which form the greatest group available for rehoming.
With the standardbred race horse being a most versatile and intelligent animal, they invariably adapt well to retraining outside racing, where, after training, they can have long and successful careers in other equestrian disciplines such as Showing, Eventing, Dressage, Polo and Show jumping, or alternatively they can simply take part in Riding Club activities and hacking.
Anyone wishing to become involved with the the rehoming programme, either by way of providing rehoming services are asked to contact HRSA, or alternatively if there are those who wish to provide financial support then we would welcome your interest and contribution.
