After months of hard work from many industry participants the McGrath Foundation Fundraising Day is almost upon us.

To be once again held at Cobram Harness Racing club on Sunday June 3, the event has grown in stature since its commencement eight years ago.

Back then, the invitational female drivers would donate their driving fees to the McGrath Foundation, an organisation set up in memory of cricketer Glenn McGrath’s late wife, Jane, who passed away after a battle with breast cancer.

Each year Cobram Harness Racing Club has worked with female drivers, headed by Donna Castles, to make each year bigger and better and bring awareness to breast cancer.

While Castles has always been a driving force behind the day, it has become even more personal to her after recently overcoming her own battle with cancer.

“It is a cause that is very close to my heart and we would love to sell as many raffle tickets as possible, with the funds going to the McGrath Foundation who do such a fantastic job.”

The Raffle that Castles speaks of is the highlight of the day off track, with a brand new Holden Barina Spark going home with one lucky person.

“There have been so many sponsors that have come on board and donated to the day, in particular Hylands Harness Colours, Carbine Chemicals, Hygain Feeds, Avenel Rug & Harness, Duff Designs, Harness Racing Victoria, TAB, Thompson Holden, Aldebaran Park, Garrards Horse & Hound, Trot Pace, Yabby Dam Racing, Benstud Standardbreds and the Vic Government. It is great to have so many people from the harness racing community keen to be involved.”

While there will be plenty of on-course entertainment for patrons, the incentives for trainers and drivers on the day are sure to attract quality fields with the Ladies Invitational Drivers race being a $10,000 C1 event.

The winning trainer will also take home a new set of hopples donated by Trot Pace.

All trainers with a starter in the event will be presented with a product from Carbine Chemicals, as well as going in the draw to win a headstall donated by Avenel Rug & Harness, or a rug sponsored by Hygain.

If you are yet to purchase a raffle ticket, you can do so through any of the lady drivers taking part in the race, Cobram Harness Racing Club or by contacting Donna Castles on 0417 003 376.
