Classy two-year-old Bletchley Park and veteran speedster Bettors Fire have been labelled as good things at Gloucester Park on Friday night by several members of the WA Trotting Media Guild.
TABradio’s Matt Young, who is leading this season’s tipping competition, last season’s leading tipster Stuart Lowe and longshot king Pat Harding are all keen on Bletchley Park.
“Bletchley Park comes up with the perfect barrier and looks the one to beat here as he should lead and control from the pole,” Young said.
Lowe agrees.
“My best bet is Bletchely Park, who has impressed at his only two starts, with a win at Pinjarra and a close third here after facing the breeze,” Lowe said. “Drawn to lead all the way.”
Harding is also singing from the same hymn sheet.
“I have a feeling that punters can get off to an excellent start on Friday night by following Shannon Suvaljko in the first two races,” Harding said. “Bletchley Park is ideally placed in barrier one and he should get punters off to a great start.”
The West Australian’s racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft and Guild president Wayne Currall believe grand old campaigner Bettors Fire can make it a hat-trick of wins at headquarters.
“Bettors Fire managed to cross Vultan Tin and win last week, despite Chris Voak’s best efforts at the start,” Havercroft said. “Back to his pet distance of 1730m this week, I see a similar scenario unfolding with Bettors Fire leading and being hard to catch in the GPHR Members Sprint.”
And Currall is of the same opinion.
“Bettors Fire has won three times over the sprint trip,” he said. “He’s a rising 10-year-old but he still maintains his zest for racing and whatever beats him will win.”
The West Australian’s Ernie Manning has made prolific winner Simba Bromac his best for the night.
“Victorian import Simba Bromac, with a barrier one bonus, gets his chance to further boost an impressive tally of 13 wins, three seconds and a fourth from 17 WA starts,” Manning said. “He notched his third Gloucester Park win when fighting on tenaciously after facing the breeze two weeks ago. Set for his fifth straight victory.”
GPTV’s Ken Casellas has labelled Our Zak Whitby as his star bet on an action-packed card.
“Versatility is one of the many attributes of Our Zak Whitby and the four-year-old has the class to overcome the outside barrier on the back line and win on Friday night,” Casellas said. “Our Zak Whitby bounced back to his best form three Fridays ago with an effortless all-the-way victory over 1730m at a 1.53.3 rate. That improved his winning record to 26 per cent and he is my best bet this week.”
VALUE BETS
Matt: Chal Storm is racing very well and is quite versatile in a competitive race. I’m keen on him on an each-way basis.
Stuart: My value bet is Real Lucky, who has run good races from wide draws at his last two starts and finished unplaced. Pole draw here brings him in with each-way claims.
Pat: Back To The Beach is ready to score his second win in five starts from barrier one over the sprint journey. He should bring home the bacon and give Suvaljko a back-to-back race double.
Ryan: Qtown Rip Roaring has produced a couple of handy runs at his last two outings and should be nearing his peak after five starts since a spell. Each-way from the draw.
Wayne: War Club is set to get the run of the race behind likely leader and favourite Jack Mac in the Pearl Classic. He’s been in good form and looks a definite place chance.
Ernie: Twoandahalf Tigers has not raced for 14 months, but possesses the ability to figure prominently for the powerful Hall stable when resuming. He has won five races and run 13 places in 25 Gloucester Park starts.
Ken: For value, I’m suggesting Real Lucky, who has been unplaced at his past four starts. The Bob Mellsop-trained five-year-old is sure to appreciate the No.1 barrier in race three and he is a good frontrunner.
