Lot 55 - Aldebaran Stephan will go under the hammer at the 2018 Pryde's EasiFeed Australasian Premier Trotting Sale.

The $55,000 Australian record for a trotting yearling sold at auction is expected to be surpassed at this year’s Pryde’s EasiFeed Australasian Premier Trotting Sale to be held at Tabcorp Park Melton on Sunday March 11.

A full-brother to the new Australasian mile record holder, Maori Time (Tr 1:51.5), Aldebaran Stephan will go under the hammer as Lot 55.

Maori Time blitzed her rivals in the weekend’s Group 1 Trotters Mile at Menangle for Brent Lilley and Todd McCarthy, taking her stake earnings to $419,801 and delivering connections a third Group 1.

Lot 55 is the lynchpin of a 12-strong Aldebaran Park consignment, of Duncan McPherson, Nagambie.

The grand looking colt is out of 2016-17 Victorian Broodmare of the Year Sundonna, a member of the famous Maori Miss tribe.

Sundonna also figures as the dam of the talented Maori Law Tr 1:58.8 ($86,669), the winner of 12 of his 15 starts to date, and the Group 1 placed Happy Maori Tr 1:59.6 ($89,365), and the grand-dam of the dual Group 1 placegetter Meadow Valley Road (Tr 1:56.3).

The colt’s pedigree abounds in black type with close relatives including the Inter Dominion champion Sumthingaboutmaori, former trotting icon Noopy Kiosk, Tennotrump, Maori Princess and Skye Rocket, to name only a few.

Pegasus Spur, the colt’s sire, has been successful at stud in the USA, New Zealand and Australia over the last decade. Among his best performers have been Flying Isa (Tr 1:53.2, $506,554), the former Australasian record holder and a Breeders Crown champion, Breeders Crown winners Paramount Geegee (Tr 1:57.3, $520,741), Speeding Spur (Tr 1:55.5 $699,060) and Wilmas Mate (Tr 1:55.5, $329,214), and in America, Daylon Miracle (Tr 1:50.6, $624,457) and Rembrandt Spur (Tr 1:52.4, $717,948).
