Harness Racing Australia has declared that microchipping of all registered Standardbreds is now compulsory nationally, commencing with foals born in the 2017/18 season.

In South Australia, current legislation mandates that microchipping of animals can only be performed by a licenced veterinarian.

As is the case with the freeze branding of foals, once the foal notification has been lodged with HRSA, the owner will be contacted by a HRSA contracted Veterinarian to organise a date and time for the foal to be microchipped.

HRSA would like to announce that there will be no additional fee charged to breeders in South Australia. Any costs involved in the microchipping process will be absorbed by HRSA.

It is anticipated that microchipping of foals in South Australia will commence later this month.
