Driver Mitch Turnbull secured win 300 at Bathurst on Wednesday night.
YOUNG driver Mitch Turnbull secured his 300th winner at Bathurst last Wednesday night.
The milestone came courtesy of the Major Bracken, in the final event on the night, a pacer trained by Turnbull’s father Steve.
After notching up a third placing at his first race start, the two-year-old got the job done at his second start, able to find the front and prove too hard for rivals to chase down.
The other father-son training-driving combination to score on the night was Peter and Travis Bullock, with runner Enk Spot Shannon making it back-to-back victories.
After being restrained from his barrier five draw, Travis took off with a mile left to run and was able to find the front.
From there, the gelding ran along at a solid tempo and scored comfortably by 4.6 metres.
Meanwhile, trainer Mat Rue scored a double with runners Goodtime Hero and Fouroeight.
Beginning from the wide barrier eight draw, Goodtime Hero was restrained by driver Tom Pay and landed last in the running lane.
Saving the gelding for one run, Pay followed a helmet until the top of the straight and then cut his runner loose, getting up in the very last stride to win by a half-neck margin.
Also beginning from barrier eight, Rue took the reins himself on his second winner for the night, Fouroeight.
Working forward to find the front with just over a lap to go, the gelding notched up his 24th career win and equalled the Bathurst track record of 1:52:2.
Of the rest, the Wendy Turnbull-trained Blood Money made it three wins in-a-row, taking out the first race of the night.
Working forward to find the front, driver Jason Turnbull got away with a cheap second quarter, leaving enough in the tank to run away and score by four metres.
Father-daughter combination Neil and Amy Day notched up an all the way victory, courtesy of Arma Miss, while Im Rock Solid for Toby Inwood and Phoebe Betts and He Said She Said for Alistair Copps and Cameron Hart were both able to lead all the way as well.
