The Bunbury Trotting Club races 25 times a year along with holding many exciting functions, markets, shows & sponsorship events. The Bunbury Trotting Club is offering a fantastic opportunity to join the team in the role of Harness Racing & Event Manager. Reporting to the Committee, this role is responsible for the strategic & operational development of the club’s racing, event & wagering offering. Building strong relationships with our key stakeholders is a crucial element of the role & we are seeking someone with great interpersonal skills to ensure everyone’s experience with The Bunbury Trotting Club is enjoyable. You will contribute to the overall strategy & success of The Bunbury Trotting Club, including the long-term strategic vision. You will also play a key role in building a strong workplace culture & gaining employee engagement & buy in.

Other key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Liaise with the Committee to further development, implement & execute the short & long term strategic plan for racing & events
  • Engaging with industry participants and key stakeholders
  • Engaging & attracting sponsorship & events
  • Liaise with Racing & Wagering Western Australia to ensure the needs of the Harness Racing Industry are meet along with the on-going success of The Bunbury Trotting Club
  • Position the Club as a market leader for sponsorship & events
  • Innovative ideas to improve The Bunbury Trotting Clubs racing product & create opportunities from this
  • Club & Committee Governance
  • All racing related administrative activities
  • OH&S Management
  • HR Management
  • Liaise with Committee & Racing & Wagering Western Australia on grant funding possibilities & opportunities

The role will suit an experienced Event Manager with racing experience and business development experience to join our progressive and innovative racing club. The Bunbury Trotting Club is flexible with working hours however there will be a requirement to attend race nights and key industry events.

The successful candidate will ideally possess the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in event management
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business management & marketing are a benefit but not critical
  • High level of negotiation, influencing & stakeholder management skills in order to positively & successfully achieve outcomes
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Effective use of computer skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Experience in managing teams
  • Experience in the horse racing industry
