A FAVOURABLE draw has placed Expensive Ego in a solid position to maintain his undefeated status at Albion Park on Saturday night.
Winner of his two starts, the Australian Pacing Gold purchase will begin from barrier four in a Qbred Triad Final for New South Wales trainer David Thorn.
As pleased as he is with the colt’s draw, Thorn is more excited about the manner in which Expensive Ego has handled the interstate trip.
“He has travelled well and settled in brilliantly,” Thorn said. “He is relaxed, eating, drinking and hasn’t missed a beat.
“I hoppled this morning to give him a look at Albion Park and he is feeling very bright.
“We’ve had a bit of luck with draw and hopefully he can make the most of it.”
While he is buoyed by Expensive Ego’s prospects, Thorn realises the son of Rock N Roll Heaven faces his biggest test in the form of Governor Jujon.
One of seven entries premier horseman Grant Dixon has in the 10-runner field, Governor Jujon is also unbeaten from five starts.
Governor Jujon will begin from gate six.
“He’s beautiful colt and I’ve got a fair opinion of him,” Thorn said. “We still don’t know how good he is and Saturday night will tell us a bit more when he is tested against the likes of Governor Jujon.
“I’d say Grant is in the same boat with Governor Jujon as to not really knowing how he measures up against our bloke.
“It will be a good test for both of them.”
Thorn will also contest the fillies’ division with Vantori Hanover.
Another APG purchase, Vantori Hanover will also begin from barrier four.
“She’s also travelled, settled and worked well since we got here,” Thorn said. “It is a pretty even race, with about six solid chances so it will depend on how the race pans out.
“She is just as good as any of them and should at least be among the placings.”
