Members of the WA Trotting Media Guild are unanimous in their thoughts on the last race at Gloucester Park's Thursday night meeting.
Star mare Cott Beach is all the rage and is expected to lead all the way. Three members of the Guild have made her the star bet on the 10-event card.
Multiple winner of the Guild's tipping competition Stuart Lowe, longshot guru Pat Harding and The West Australian's Ernie Manning all believe that punters can end the evening on a winning note by supporting Cott Beach. "Super successful mare Cott Beach has had three runs back from a long break for two placings and a strong win last week here," Lowe said. "Drawn one and should lead throughout."
Harding and Manning agree. "My best bet of the night comes up in race 10 and punters should go out on a winning note with No. 1 Cott Beach," Harding said. "This mare has been very consistent since coming back after a spell and Nathan Turvey should notch up a back-to-back win with her."
Manning believes Cott Beach is poised to add to her imposing CV. "Cott Beach has shown class since early in her career and looks back to top form as a four-year-old," Manning said. "She overcame a second-line draw to win stylishly when racing third-up at Gloucester Park last week. The mare appears set to further boost her impressive career tally of 14 wins and 13 places from 34 starts."
Budding racecaller Hayden King has made Mighty Conqueror his best bet in the Easter Cup. "Mighty Conqueror has the potential to be a grand circuit performer in the near future and looks an excellent chance to win the Easter Cup," King said.
GPTV's Ken Casellas is keen on the chances of Luis Alberto. "Rejuvenated five-year-old Luis Alberto will relish the No. 1 barrier in the second race on Friday night and is my best bet," Casellas said. "Jocelyn Young should be able to use the gelding's splendid gate speed in a bid to keep speedy beginner Vincenzo Peruggia at bay. His recent efforts in a variety of scenarios have been first class." But
Guild President Wayne Currall is locking horns with Casellas and has made Vincenzo Perrugia his best bet for the night. "I was a little disappointed in Vincenzo Perrugia's close second behind The Midas Touch on Tuesday evening," Currall said. "However, I'm prepared to give him another chance and believe he could be too strong for this field."
The West Australian's racing co-ordinator Ryan Havercroft believes the improved Warfare will continue on his winning way in the opening event. "Warfare barely worked up a sweat in leading all-the-way last Friday from barrier one," Havercroft said. "He comes back in distance to the sprint trip this week, but he looked to have an aura of confidence in what he did last week and is drawn to be forward again."
VALUE BETS
STUART: Vultan Tin was never likely last week from a wide draw over the short trip. Previous form was excellent and he should bounce back here.
PAT: My value bet comes in the sixth with No. 6 Livura. He hasn't had much luck in recent races but I think he can do well for punters in this race.
ERNIE: Black Jack Zac seems sure to be driven aggressively from gate one in a sprint and could break through for another win after being beaten at his past six starts. He ran on well last Friday to finish second.
HAYDEN: Carte Blanche has a great finishing burst and some of these are one-paced. Could launch late.
KEN: For value, I suggest Liam Neil from the inside of the back line in race three. He is in sparkling form and if he gets a clear passage he is sure to be charging home at the business end of proceedings.
WAYNE: Herrick Roosevelt is drawn to get a cosy run from his back-line draw and could be the one finishing all over the top of them in the run to the line.
RYAN: The Trilogy ran a nice trial for this week's Easter Cup when runner-up to Attack On Command last Friday. Hit the line well and the step up to 2902m won't be a concern.
