Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) is a statutory body whose role is to oversee all harness racing activity in Victoria. We are committed to developing a vibrant and sustainable harness racing industry which promotes participation, integrity and racing excellence and grow returns to all our stakeholders.  We run approximately 450 race meetings per year at 28 tracks throughout Victoria. 

The Opportunity

HRV has a new and exciting opportunity within the Flemington Head Office to join the Risk and Compliance team as the Senior Advisor, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). This new position offers a flexible part-time employment opportunity.

The Senior Advisor, OHS will be responsible for management of HRV’s OHS function. The position is a new role and will ensure HRV is compliant with OHS legislative requirements, as well as foster a culture that embraces and is aware of OHS, within the organisation and throughout the harness racing industry in Victoria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development, implementation and maintenance of all health & safety systems;
  • Preparation and enforcement of policies to establish a health & safety culture;
  • Evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to law requirements;
  • Provide guidance to HRV’s OHS staff representative committees;
  • Conduct of risk assessments;
  • Conduct of incident investigations, providing recommendations and implementing control solutions;
  • Build relationships with Victorian harness racing clubs and kindred bodies;
  • Assist with harness racing clubs and kindred bodies on compliance with legislation / HRV policies and provide advice on OHS matters;
  • Make recommendations to HRV management and assist in drafting board, audit and risk committee reports; and
  • At times, travel to HRV’s harness racing facility Tabcorp Park (Melton) and regional harness racing clubs in Victoria.

About You

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent);
  • Extensive, demonstrated knowledge and experience in OHS legislation and processes;
  • Ability to work with a wide range of external contractors;
  • Ability to build relationships, provide guidance and assistance and communicate effectively with Stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated computer skills and literacy; and
  • Valid Driver’s Licence.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in a multilevel and mixed industry organisation; and
  • An understanding of the racing industry.
