One of Tasmania's classiest pacers, Scooterwillrev, returns from a spell this evening in the Tasmanian Horse Transport Show Cup in Launceston.
The Craig Hayes-trained Somebeachsomewhere-Karamea Toastime five-year-old gelding (pictured) has been off the scene since August 12 when he notched up his fifth straight victory, the twenty-first of a 33 start career.
"After his all the way victory in Hobart defeating Rocknroll Turbo and Star Chamber we decided to give him a break, so we put him in the paddock for three weeks with the intent of just easing him back into his work," said Craig.
"I've been really pleased with the way he's been working and I'm expecting a forward showing from him tonight despite the 30-metre handicap."
Scooterwillrev faces the recently crowned Tasmanian Mare of the Year Call Her Julie (10-metres), Medal Of Honour (10-metres) having its first start in the state for Juanita McKenzie and the in-form last start winner Im Barney Rubble (20-metres).
"It's a big ask tonight to come off the 30-metre back mark especially over the 2200-metres in such a big field, I'd be more confident over the 2698-metre trip but 2200 it is," pondered Craig.
"I will be leaving it to Rohan (Hadley) to gauge when to make his move, he will have to work into it some stage so if he can get a nice cart into it at the bell he will take some holding out."
Scooterwillrev is likely to remain in the state this campaign with the lure of increased local prizemoney providing a juicy enough bunch of carrots for connections.
"Scooter's first main target will be the former Launceston Cup in mid-December that's now been bumped up to $30,000 and then the major races in Hobart over Christmas, the Cup's worth $75,000 this year and then, of course, there is the $75,000 Easter Cup so there's more than enough to keep our eyes on the prize here in Tasmania this campaign."
The Show Cup will be shown on Sky Racing 1 with the remaining races to be televised on Sky Racing 2.
