Garry and Michelle Armstrong with their pacer Overtaking Lane following her win at Menangle last year.
THE harness racing industry was saddened to learn of the passing of prominent Coolamon trainer, owner, breeder and administrator Garry Armstrong.
Garry passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer, aged 56.
The third generation horseman raced many horses over the years and just before his passing was thrilled to watch his pacer Celestial Arden win the Group 3 J.D. Watts Memorial at Tabcorp Park Menangle.
“We were all very happy and Dad enjoyed that win,” Garry’s son Liam said.
Other horses Garry had enjoyment watching race included Overtaking Lane, Everything Andmore and Our Marscapony to name a few.
Garry also served as the Vice President at the Coolamon Harness Racing Club.
A funeral for Garry will take place at St Andrews Anglican Church, Coolamon, on Wednesday June 27, at 11am.
The Armstrong family are encouraging Garry’s harness racing friends attending his funeral to form a guard of honour.
Harness Racing NSW extends its deepest sympathies to Garry’s family and friends.
