The Inter Dominion Event Committee (IDEC) yesterday approved a request from Inter Dominion co-hosts, Harness Racing New South Wales, Club Menangle, Harness Racing Victoria & Harness Racing New Zealand to reinstate the name and conduct the Inter Dominion Trotting Championship. (The Championship).

The Championship has not been conducted since 2012 when I CAN DOOSIT NZ was victorious at Tabcorp Park Melton.

IDEC approved the request upon undertakings with regards to rotation among the co-hosts each year, minimum prizemoney levels and the combination of the Inter Dominion Pacing & Trotting Championship finals being conducted on the same night at the same venue.

IDEC chairman, Mr Ken Spicer, was thrilled with the outcome, “The Event Committee had been keen to see the Inter Dominion Trotting Championship return on a rotational basis, so the cooperation of all co-hosts to work collectively and share the event equally was hard to ignore.  In the end the unanimous decision was simple.  All of the co-hosts are to be congratulated on a great step forward for the industry and particularly those who have deep investments in the trotting gait”.

HRA Chairman Mr Michael Taranto, who is an event committee member, also welcomed the announcement and explained that the HRA members now need to sign off on the return of the
Inter Dominion Trotting Championship name, “As per the HRA Rules of Association I will now call a Special General Meeting of members to endorse this decision of IDEC. This approach is procedural and I do not expect any issues to return this event as the jewel in the crown of trotting features in Australasia”.
