Harness – Stewards Inquiry – trainer Mr Gary Elson – ARTURUS NZ & SCOOBYS DELIGHT
RWWA Stewards have been advised by the ChemCentre in Perth, that cobalt at a concentration in excess of 100 micrograms per litre, being the threshold prescribed in the Harness Rules of Racing, has been detected in a urine sample taken from SCOOBYS DELIGHT at Gloucester Park on 4 August 2017 prior to it competing and winning in Race 3.
This followed a previous report that cobalt at a concentration in excess of 100 micrograms per litre, had been detected in a urine sample taken from ARTURUS NZ at Gloucester Park on 3 November 2017 prior to it competing and finishing fourth in Race 9.
Both findings have now been verified by the Racing Analytical Services laboratory (RASL) in Victoria.
A Stewards inquiry into this matter, which was to be conducted on 4 January was adjourned the day prior at the request of Mr Elson in order for him to obtain further materials and consult with his legal advisors. A date for the resumption will be determined in due course.
Pursuant to Harness Rule of Racing 183(d) the previous suspension of Mr Elson’s licence to train pending the outcome of the inquiry continues to apply.
