VINCENT waiting to enter the APG Sales ring as a yearling

LADBROKES AUSTRALIAN PACING GOLD graduate Vincent has been set for a return to his state of origin.

Fresh from his Auckland Cup victory on New Year’s Eve, New Zealand-based Vincent will be given a brief let-up before being sent to Australia.

To be more precise, co-trainer Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen will take the four-year-old to New South Wales.

Purchased at the Sydney leg of the Ladbrokes APG Sales, Vincent’s ‘homecoming’ is based around the Carnival Of Miracles at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

With the Chariots Of Fire the primary target, Vincent will also contest the Miracle Mile should he earn a berth in the time-honoured sprint.

The son of Art Major is no stranger to Group One success at the venue, having captured last season’s New South Wales Derby and Breeders’ Challenge.

“He will have a quiet week now before he goes over to Sydney,” Purdon said. “We will give him a couple of starts in the lead-up races to the Chariots.

“If he qualifies for the Miracle Mile we will also run him in that.”

Vincent’s Trans Tasman campaign means he will clash with stablemate Ultimate Machete, which dominated last month’s four-year-old majors in Western Australia.

Having also enjoyed a short break, Ultimate Machete has been set for the Ballarat Cup on January 20 before crossing the Murray River.

The last time the pair met at Menangle, Ultimate Machete finished second behind Vincent in the Derby.
