Procedure - When Claiming A Horse In Queensland

To clarify the procedure of claiming a horse and the roles of both Racing Queensland (RQ) and the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) in the process it is recommended to follow below procedure when claiming a horse:

1. Download a Claim Form from the QRIC website:  http://www.qric.qld.gov.au/ or contact QRIC on 1300 087 021 to arrange for a copy of the form to be forwarded to you.

2. Complete the Claim Form ensuring the form is completed in full including signatures of all new owners.

3. Submit Claim Form to the Acceptance Office staff on track with accompanying payment or forward to Racing Queensland via email to harnesshandicapping@racingqueensland.com.au or by fax to (07) 3269 6715.

4. Submit payment to Racing Queensland (RQ) for the horse in which the claim is to be lodged.  Payment can be made by 2 methods only:-

  • Bank Transfer (Direct Deposit) into RQ’s bank account.  Contact RQ Racing Office on (07) 3869 9774 for the bank account details.  The funds must be confirmed as received into the RQ bank account for the claim to be accepted.
  • Bank Cheque made out to Racing Queensland and presented on course with the Claim Form at the Race Day Office.
  • Payment and lodgement of the Claim Form must be received no later than 15 minutes before the advertised start time of the Claiming Race.

5. QRIC Stewards determine whether the Claim submitted is valid. In the case where multiple claims have been lodged for the same horse the QRIC Stewards will conduct a ballot.

6. Once your claim has been deemed successful by QRIC Stewards a $70 transfer fee is payable to QRIC.  QRIC Payments will only be accepted by Credit Card, funds transfer or direct deposit.  Please call QRIC’s payment agency CAA on (07) 3003 2320 to arrange payment of the transfer fee.  Your horse will not be permitted to be entered for a race unless this transfer fee has been paid.

7. For your horse to be eligible to enter a future Claiming Race an Authority To Nominate In Claiming Races Form must be completed and returned to QRIC.  This form can be downloaded from the QRIC website http://www.qric.qld.gov.au/ or contact QRIC on 1300 087 021 to arrange for a copy of the form to be forwarded to you.

Please make yourself aware of these procedures as there are some cross over responsibilities between the two separate bodies which have caused some confusion when lodging claims.

In summary the financial roles of both Racing Queensland and QRIC are:

Racing Queensland

  • Receive payment for the horse at the advertised claiming value
  • Pay the previous owner of the horse at the advertised claiming value

QRIC

  • Receive payment of the transfer of ownership fee only

It is important to make yourself aware of the above procedure as payments of the claiming value of the horse to the incorrect Administration Body may result in your claim being deemed invalid.

Should you have any queries or wish to discuss the requirements for lodging a Claim please do not hesitate to contact the Racing Queensland Harness Racing Office on (07) 3869 9774.
