Tasmanian Harness Highlights – Thursday 23 November

The temperature has been hot on and off the track in Tasmania in the past week as the road to the Group 2 Triple M Hobart Tasmania Cup on December 22 continues.

Last week Im Barney Rubble continued his brilliant form by taking out the Danbury Park Cup while Hollys Miss Molly showed that she was a contender for the state’s premier mares’ race the $20,000 George Johnson, when she took out the Mother Of Pearl.

This week there is a feast of action for Harness fans with harness racing in Hobart on Friday evening, Carrick Park on Sunday afternoon and the country’s premier event the Inter Dominion commencing on Friday evening in Western Australia with the opening round of heats.

The Stars

Im Barney Rubble – notched up his fifth win for the season when he won the Doug Martin Memorial Danbury Park Cup.

Semowillrev – didn’t disappoint the punters that $1.22, there is doubt his trainer Craig Hayes and the owners will be chasing back-to-back wins in April’s Tasmanian Derby after winning the race last year with Scooterwillrev.

Ben Yole – trained the quinella into races on Sunday, including in the feature mares’ race the Shirley Martin Memorial Mother Of Pearl which was won by Hollys Miss Molly.

Ten Crystals

The Shelly Barnes trained pacer was trapped three wide for the first thousand metres of the race before settling back at the tail end of the field. Ten Crystals then got a cart in to the race out three horses wide over the last 950 metres and continued to make ground over the concluding stages to only finish 10.9 metres behind the third place getter.

Trial File

Burnie on Friday
Three trials were held on the north-west coast circuit where Lord Jones worked forward to find the lead to win his trial in a mile rate of 2 minutes and 4.0 seconds which was 2.1 seconds outside the track record. Other winners on the night were Border Cross (2:11. 0 and Leothegreat (2:12.3)

Launceston on Sunday
Vinnie Toretto and Rodger Ramjet both recorded quick last quarters when winning there respective trials.

Hobart Monday
The talented three-year-old filly Vouvray Beach recorded the quickest trial of the session in a mile rate of 2:00.5. The Rodney Ashwood trained filly hasn’t raced since winning in May. Preferred Lies (2:07.2), Pockets Of Courage (2:02.9), Mister Lennox (2:02.2), Schvetsjet (2:05.9) and Resurgent Jet (2:05.8) all recording victories.

Week Ahead

Tier one racing returns to Hobart on Friday evening with a competitive eight-event program that gets under way at 17:59. In the feature race the $10,000 Rexel North Hobart Tasmanian Mile the Ken Rattray trained Destreos will be out to add another win to his tally as the 14-year-old closes in on a century of wins.

In race six, the Luxbet Pace, exciting pacer Jaks Teller will be out to add to his picket fence when he steps up in grade to C4-C5 grade. Driver Ricky Duggan will have to overcome an inside of second row draw in the 2090-metre event.

The tier two meeting will be at Carrick Park on Sunday afternoon, the popular country race club will be the first of many hosted live stream telecast from some of the state’s country tracks. Two heats of the NTLHA Cup headline the nine event program.

In heat one the Rohan Hillier trained and driven Solid As A Rock returns to the state after a stint in Victoria. The winner of five races last season has not raced contesting the $190,000 Breeders Crown Final at Melton in August and has two trial victories at Carrick Park to his credit in recent weeks.

In the second heat the Todd Rattray trained Hafter will be chasing his fifth consecutive win. The Bettors Delight gelding will be driven by Todd’s father Barrie.

On Friday evening at Gloucester Park in Perth, the opening round of heats of the Inter Dominion will take place.

In heat one Tasmanian owned, bred, trained and driven pacer Devendra will line up from the pole position. Trainer-driver Todd Rattray is happy with how the gelding has settled in Western Australia after his flight out of Melbourne on Monday morning.

Latrobe businessman Warren Viney is a part-owner of the Kevin Pizzuto trained Code Black who has drawn in barrier five in the race.

The opening heat is scheduled to start at 22:00 (Tasmanian Time)
