ALL HAIL CAESAR – that’s exactly what the gelding’s rivals were forced to do at Globe Derby yesterday.
Despite working three-wide during the early and latter stages over 1800 metres, All Hail Caesar put his opposition to the sword on his way to a strong victory from Glacier Heights and Genuine Excuse.
Thrilled with the six-year-old’s performance, trainer Mark Russo has quickly turned his attention to Saturday night’s Final at the same venue.
“He did a bit of work and still won well, which was good to see,” Russo said. “He is a bit one-paced, but doing a bit of work doesn’t really worry him.
“Now he’s in the Final on the weekend and we have to hope for a good draw.”
Driven by Michael Smith during his latest triumph, All Hail Caesar rated 2:00.3 to continue his solid start to the season.
The son of Julius Caesar has had four starts for the term, which have netted a win and three placings.
“He is going well and I was pretty confident before his heat, until I spoke to one of the other trainers and they mentioned how good their horse was working,” Russo said.
“In the end he was able to come out on top, and with a bit of luck, he can do it again in the Final.”
