Vicbred Ballarat Cup winner Smolda in full flight up the Ballarat straight.

Vicbred runners made a clean sweep of last Friday night’s Wedderburn @ Melton trots meeting.

The Vicbred runners then backed it up at Ballarat on Saturday night, winning four races – including the Group 1 PETstock Ballarat Pacing Cup.

In fact, with Smolda (Courage Under Fire/Under The Mattress) winning and Lennytheshark (Four Starzzz Shark/Botswana) running second in the Cup, the Vicbred runners ran 1-2 in the Bray Raceway feature race.

Smolda, though trained in New Zealand, was bred by Paul Blackshaw at Rutherglen and is by Courage Under Fire, who stands at Alabar Farms’ Australian base at Koyuga in country Victoria.

Trained by Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen, and owned by Phil and Glenys Kennard, Neil Pilcher and Marcus Kirkwood, the seven-year-old gelding is closing in on $1million in prizemoney earned.
