Born To Rocknroll notched his third career win last night in the third heat of the Empire Stallions Vicbred Super Series for two-year-old colts and geldings at Cranbourne.

The Belinda McCarthy-trained pacer didn’t have to work too hard in the run for the win, leading reinsman Nathan Jack guiding the Rocknroll Hanover/Aston Villa colt through his sectionals comfortably.

Able to lead from barrier one at the 2080-metre start, Born To Rocknroll ambled through a 36.1secs lead time with lone back-row runner Soho Tribeca trailing through on to his back for Chris Alford.

An opening half of 64.5secs ensured the Australian Pacing Gold runner-up of April would have plenty left for a short, sharp sprint at the finish.

The leader went unchallenged through the third quarter also (29.8secs) before being wound up the last 200m, dashing to the line in 28.3secs for a relaxed win.

“He had a good trip,” Jack said.

“He feels very strong. I drove him earlier in his career when he was trained by Danny Thackeray. He’s always shown he should have a good future.”

Soho Tribeca held on for second ahead of Professor Tom (Gavin Lang), who breezed the last lap after making a move three-wide at the bell.

Mar Nien ran fourth for John Justice along the sprint lane from three-pegs.

The winner rated 2:02.8.

Born To Rocknroll joins Apache Shark (Emma Stewart) and Shadow Sax (Peter Tonkin) as heat winners so far in this year’s Vicbred Super Series 2YO males’ division.
