Soho Lexington draws alongside Christmas Jolt before overtaking him in the APG Consolation.
Burrumbeet trainer Michael Stanley is riding a wave of form.
From his past 11 races Stanley-trained horses have racked up six wins, with Kurahaupo Gambler, Koree Jayne, Soho Tokyo and Soho Lexington all in winning form.
“From our wins this season we’ve only had about four wins from Soho Tokyo, Hilltop Hustler and Young Modern combined, so we’ve certainly added to our depth,” Stanley said.
The stable is fresh off a Group 2 win at Menangle on Sunday where Soho Lexington proved too tough for his rivals in the Australian Pacing Gold 2YO Colts and Geldings Consolation (worth $50,000).
“Like I’ve said in the past we think he goes really nice,” Stanley said.
“He’s not an absolute topliner but he’s the sort of horse who can beat the topliners on his day if he gets the opportunity.
“On the weekend Christmas Jolt (the $1.30 favourite and winner of five out of eight races) went pretty quick early.
“If they run 26 out of the gate at Menangle, especially from out wide, then they have to be pretty special to keep going.
“I went back and as soon as they backed off to almost 32, which felt like a crawl, I was lucky enough to get around easily.
“Past the 400m I was starting to feel pretty confident.”
Soho Lexington (by Rock N Roll Heaven out of My Prerogative) levelled up with Christmas Jolt approaching the final bend and stuck his head in front halfway up the straight, eventually edging clear for a 1.1-metre win in a rate of 1:56.4 for the mile trip (sectionals 26.8, 31.9, 29.8, 27.9).
Raced by Robert Watson, Soho Lexington - a half-brother to filly Sandy Kay - has now won two out of seven races for stakes of $34,638.
Stanley said Soho Lexington arrived back at his farm today and would have 10 days off before being prepared for the Empire Stallions Vicbred Super Series.
