Bellmac Kody and happy connections after the Geelong Trotters Cup win.

Bellmac Kody took out the first of the feature races on Geelong Cup night, securing victory in the James & Son McNamara Memorial Trotters Cup.

The five-year-old son of Bacardi Lindy out of Belstar out-toughed his rivals in driving rain to take the silverware by 4.7 metres over runner-up Looks A Moral and third placegetter Unico Pegasus.

Bellmac Kody recently won back-to-back races and went into tonight’s 2570m feature a two-time winner at the track.

Driven by Haydon Gray, David Van Ryn trained Bellmac Kody found the lead early before handing up to Unico Pegasus with a mile to run.

When a death-seating Hinault dropped out approaching the home bend, Gray got busy aboard Bellmac Kody and made his run.

Bellmac Kody proved too strong in the run home, Looks A Moral working to the line well for second and Unico Pegasus holding on for third.

Rumbustious and Michael Thomas both enjoyed soft runs worse than midfield and finished on strongly for fourth and fifth respectively.

The favourite, Irish Whisper, ran seventh.

The winner’s mile rate was 2:05.6.
