Waikare Patricia taking out the Vicbred Platinum final on Del-Re Hunter Cup night.
The Vicbred Platinum Trotting Mares Sprint Championship is being hailed as a great success by everybody involved.
The series culminated on Del-Re A G Hunter Cup night when Waikare Patricia took the feature final in brilliant fashion.
The mare, trained by Graham McDermott proved a model of consistency through the series, running second in heat two and winning heat four.
She came into the final as the favourite and produced a dominant on-speed display, scoring by almost 10 metres after drawing the second line.
The race winnings took her to a total of $28,500 prizemoney from the series which would be the envy of many squaregaiting owners and trainers. In fact, in all of last season only four trotting mares accrued more prizemoney.
$80,000 in total was paid out to sprinting mares of the square-gaited variety throughout the series, giving connections plenty of reasons to invest in the sport.
A total of 33 trotting mares contested the series and each of the five heat winners, including Waikare Patricia, were able to record career best times during their Vicbred Platinum campaigns.
The success of the series can be put down to a combined effort between Harness Racing Victoria, Harness Breeders Vic. and the State Government who jointly created the series which is open exclusively to VICBRED eligible horses that carry the S3 branded in Victoria prefix.
Minister for Racing Dr Dennis Napthine has been a great supporter of all codes of racing and the financial backing of this series by the Victorian Coalition Government bodes well for the future, with plenty in the trotting landscape already purchasing mares to aim towards forthcoming series’.
With the inaugural Australasian Premier Trotting Sale just around the corner, the opportunity to purchase a Victorian bred trotting youngster to benefit from great initiatives like the Vicbred Platinum series has never been better.
