All Star; champion trainer Mark Purdon will campaign during the Brisbane Winter Carnival with smart filly Tatijana Bromac
The Kiwi's are coming.
Star New Zealand filly Tatijana Bromac flew into Brisbane today (Sunday) and will contest the Gr.1 $75,000 Queensland Oaks on July 2, the opening night of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
The Albion Park carnival will run over four consecutive Saturday nights during the month of July.
The Mark Purdon trained filly ran a slashing second at her most recent start in the Gr.1 $150,000 Diamond final on Jewels day behind champion filly Carabella on June 4 at Ashburton.
“After talking with connections, we decided to chase the Queensland Oaks before looking at other feature events in Victoria to end her season.” Purdon declared.
The royally bred Rocknroll Hanover filly will bypass the Gr.3 $30,000 Inox Gold Coast Oaks this Friday night at Parklands with Purdon opting to keep her fresh for the July 2 feature at Albion Park.
“She won't start in the Gold Coast event, it will be a hit-run mission solely for the Queensland Oaks,”
“It's been a fairly long season for her to date but she is coming through her races very well, she has paced some big miles in very fast time and her last couple of starts were very pleasing behind Carabella,”
“She went a terrific race in her Jewels final and really gave Carabella a little scare and it would be great for her long-term value if she could pick up a Group One feature, that would be tops for her owners.”
Tatijana Bromac will face stern opposition headed up by local fillies Courageous Annie and Forever Gold whilst several Sydney trained fillies including Jennas Highview, Rainbow Dasher and Baby Bling are also headed up the highway for the Oaks feature.
Courageous Annie has already captured the Gr.1 $100,000 New South Wales Oaks at TABCORP Park, Menangle back in March and remains unbeaten in ten starts this term whilst Forever Gold comes into the feature races fresh and the winner of her last nine starts.
“These races are never easy to win and obviously the local fillies boast very good form but I know my filly is very capable,”
“I think the race will be very competitive but I'm sure with normal luck my filly will be right in the finish.”
The last time the champion horseman campaigned in Queensland, it ended it tatters during the 2009 Inter Dominion Pacing series at the Gold Coast.
Purdon was suspended on the opening night of the series for six weeks by stewards after his drive behind boom pacer Auckland Reactor when second behind Karloo Mick and then watched from the grandstand as Auckland Reactor self-destructed in the final when handled by legendary Victorian reinsman Gavin Lang.
The last New Zealand trained filly to win the Queensland Oaks was the Bruce Negus conditioned Turkana back in 2004.
