Sundons Gift Sets New Record

27 November 2010

Champion squaregaiter Sundons Gift obliterated the Australasian Trotters Mile record in winning the Sunnyfield Trotters Mile at Tabcorp Park Menangle this evening.

In setting a new time of 1:54.4, Sundons Gift beat the previous mark of 1:55.6 set by Lyell Creek at Ashburton on October 23, 2000.
Lyell Creek’s time was also equal to the fastest time trotted over a mile in Australasia set by the mighty Scotch Notch, which set the mark in a time-trial.
Sundons Gift was forced to work from the outside gate and eventually found the front with 800 metres to run.
Racing through the quarters in 27.9, 29.9, 29.2 and 27.3, Sundons Gift stopped the clock in a blistering 1:54.4!
Trainer-driver Chris Lang raised his whip in the air in jubilation close to home as Sundons Gift held off the fast-finishing Down Under Muscles, who was mighty in defeat. Third was Kyvalley Mac.
His time also broke the Australian record set by Earl Of Mot (1:56.2) at Tabcorp Park Menangle in 2008.
