TC02 REVIEW BRINGS CHANGE

The Review of the TC02 level in harness racing has resulted in a change of level in the National Rules. The level is now set at 36.0 mmol/L as determined by the Australian Harness Racing Council.

This change in the level means that harness racing is now using the same level as thoroughbred racing.

Mr Tony McGrath, President of the Australian Harness Racing Council advises that Council resolved to establish an ongoing consultative approach to manage the national protocols, procedures and policies in the area of Prohibited Substances.

He further advised that harness racing would establish education programs in every State for industry trainers and veterinarians servicing our industry. Particular emphasis would be placed on feeding practices together with the use and understanding of feeding additives.

Mr McGrath concluded by stating that this approach will also ensure that attention is given to our responsibility for the welfare of horses in our industry.
